Virtual KYO

WHAT DOES A COVID-19 SEASON LOOK LIKE?

With our community’s safety in mind, KYO E-Orchestra is our answer to navigating this time of uncertainty with confidence. It is our plan to jump right back into socially distanced, in-person rehearsals as soon as it is safe for students, staff, volunteers, and our hosting facilities. We anxiously await the opportunity to see you all in person, but for now, we look forward to seeing you virtually!

These are unprecedented times, challenging Kawartha Youth Orchestra (KYO) to be the best version of its virtual self. We are fortunate to have dedicated, creative, and visionary Board members and staff who have worked thoughtfully to create relevant programming for your student. We hope you will choose to be part of this exciting moment in time. We miss everyone and look forward to the day when we can safely begin to work in-person to create music, but for now, we are extremely happy to bring you KYO E-Orchestra!

KYO E-ORCHESTRA ENSEMBLES AND REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

HOW DO WE PLAN TO DO THIS?

The COVID season will be divided – Fall, Winter, and Spring rehearsal cycles. There will be short breaks between cycles so that recordings can be compiled (while we are virtual), virtual concerts premiered, and new music distributed. Each rehearsal cycle will end with a virtual social activity time. Rehearsal breaks will coincide with usual school holiday schedules (December and March Break). Throughout each cycle our conductor and coaches will offer some of the additional experiences listed below to help enrich your music learning.

Zoom call with the orchestra. There are 12 people on the call.

E-ORCHESTRA – SPRING 2021

During the spring term, senior orchestra students will meet virtually on Sundays beginning March 21st. Junior orchestra and Farm Team students will meet virtually and concurrently on Wednesdays beginning March 24th. There will be a term break in April to coincide with the scheduled school Spring Break; rehearsals will resume April 18th for KYO and April 21st for Farm Team and JKYO.

Junior and senior orchestra rehearsals will be held via ZOOM, sectionals will be held via ZOOM or Play With A Pro (PWAP). Weekly information will be distributed using email and the Discord instant-messaging app. All Zoom rehearsals and sectionals will be recorded and uploaded to Google Drive for review. Sectionals held on PWAP will be recorded and archived on PWAP for review.

Farm Team students will have individual virtual lessons arranged privately with coaches, in addition to their weekly ensemble time. The ensemble time on Wednesday evenings will be hosted on ZOOM. Weekly information will be distributed using Seesaw classroom app.

Each term will culminate in virtual ensemble video recordings and a concert. We are very excited to bring you the following opportunities!
