“Wow, where do I start? I was asked to write a two-line testimonial in support of Kawartha Youth Orchestra (KYO). That is impossible. To summarize how incredible KYO is and the dedicated volunteers into two lines can’t be done.”

Linda — JKYO Parent

“My daughter LOVED the UPBEAT pilot program. She provided rave reviews on every ride home and would look forward to each and every session. Congratulations on such a successful pilot!!”

Jennifer — UpBeat! Parent

“The KYO embraced my son with open arms and through its commitment to his development was able to further drive not only advancement in music but also confidence and life skills.”

Spyros — SKYO Parent

“Our teen aspires to be a professional musician & the KYO is helping her toward that goal. We are especially grateful for the orchestra’s subsidy program, which makes it possible for her to participate & learn amazing music, play in a dynamic group & perform confidently with her peers.”

Jenny — SKYO Parent

“The KYO spirit of generosity & commitment, not only to music, but to the young people who make up all the KYO teams, has allowed me to share my knowledge & ability with others through mentorship, so that young musicians like myself still have opportunities to grow.”

Tabitha — SKYO Musician

The skills that I learned at the KYO were integral to my success in my studies as a music teacher & I use the skills every day to encourage & instill passion for music. Working with the JKYO woodwinds & giving back to this orchestra & our musical community is a real honour.”

Maddy — SKYO Alumna

Kawartha Youth Orchestra (KYO) is a volunteer-driven community youth organization and a Canadian registered charity (CRA #89168 2700 RR 0001).

Educating and enriching our students’ lives through music could not happen without the generous support of our extended KYO family of supporters. At our core, we believe that music education and enrichment should be accessible to all, therefore we endeavor to keep tuition affordable for families and, as well, offer need-based tuition aid and an instrument lending library.

Registration fees contribute approximately 4% toward annual operating revenue. Therefore, we absolutely rely on sponsors, donors, and volunteers to further support our orchestra-training and after-school music-education programs and enable KYO to offer essential opportunities to local children and youth.

We invite you to join supporters past and present, that have helped KYO become the premier music education organization it is today!

51%: Program & Teaching Staff, 40%: Instruments, Program Delivery Expenses, Program Space, 9%: Administration & Overheat. *Note: The average cost of running KYO programs is $5500 per youth per year.

Become a Sponsor or Donor

The average cost of participation in KYO programs is $3,500.00 per youth per year.

The Orchestras program realises approximately 4% of its operating costs from tuition fees.

KYO is committed to data transparency. If you would like to learn more about how KYO spends the resources that you donate, you may review our Annual Report. Our most recent tax return information is also available via the Canada Revenue Agency.

Your donations are tax deductible to the degree the law allows and directly support the KYO, its musicians, and our ongoing commitment of Educating Youth Through Music.

We invite you to review the support options listed below, and pick the one that is right for you!

A substantial universal subsidy program ensures that individual tuition for The Orchestras is modest. Families for whom the published tuition remains a challenge are able to access additional tuition bursaries. KYO offers instruments for loan to registered musicians as available from our Instrument Library inventory.

UPBEAT! Downtown (UPBEAT) is delivered tuition-free to participating children. Instruments are provided on load to participants while they are enrolled in UPBEAT.

OTHER SUPPORT OPPORTUNITIES

Donate Instruments

Your Old Musical Instrument + A KYO Youth Musician = Music Opportunity!
Let us put your un-used musical instrument to great use. Your donated instrument supports a kid who can’t afford music education!
The cost of an instrument can be an obstacle for some families. Kawartha Youth Orchestra reduces barriers to music education by putting instruments into the hands of students.
Donations of instruments in playing condition are used by students or, in some cases, can be sold to provide instruments that the KYO does not own. Valuable instruments, professionally appraised, may also generate charitable tax receipts from KYO for the donors.
If you have an instrument that you believe might help a student in need, please contact us for more information.

Tenuto Trust

Contribute to the Tenuto Trust. The Tenuto Trust is a fund established and supported by friends of the Kawartha Youth Orchestra. It will grow and provide a legacy of dependable, long-term support for the orchestra. The Trust is managed by the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough.

Service Volunteers

Many minds and hands make light work of the numerous tasks and small projects required to sustain delivery of The Orchestras and UPBEAT programs.

Volunteers with specialized technical skill sets (ie.: musical instrument knowledge, photography, digital recording, post-production) amplify our knowledge and talent base.

Volunteers with operational, administrative, and organizational skill sets (ie.: book-keeping, data management, resource management, event coordination) improve the efficiency of our day to day operation.

Volunteers with a desire to empower young people by giving back through music, build excellence and sustain our commitment to inspiring a love for music and a passion to share it.

If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, contact the Human Resource Committee.
